: Boise River: Fishing is picking up and fishing well through town. The most effective methods for fly anglers will be nymphing focusing on midges, caddis pupa, pheasant tails, and other jig style nymphs. Caddis are being seen consistently on top and it is best practice to target fish with the dry fly in the evening. Gear Fisherman will find success with night crawlers, spoons and spinners. South Fork - Since it opened on Memorial Day fishing in the south fork has been very good. The flows have been very perfect for walk and wade fishing and look like they will stay that way for the next couple of weeks. Focus on nymphing for you most success midges, pupas, black stonefly nymphs, and Pheasant tails are all recommended. Note that flows in the 300's currently are low for the area, make sure to check current flows before heading out. Think 500 cfs is maximum for wadeable conditions. Reported by: Anglers Fly Shop |

About: -
The Boise River, located just a
few minutes from downtown Boise, however most anglers elect to fish the South
Fork located below Anderson Dam near Mountain Home. The most popular float is from the launch below the dam to the take-out
at Indian Point. This features several types of water, and floating conditions are
moderate. It's possible to extend the float from the dam down to the Cow Creek
Bridge, but the section between Indian Point and the bridge features some
technical water and more difficult floating conditions.
South Fork Boise (below Anderson Ranch Dam) - Great fall
fishing for trophy wild rainbows and whitefish. Note the trophy trout
rule means no bait, and lures and flies must be barbless. Bag limit is two fish
over 20-inches through November 30. After that, the winter stream rules apply -
catch and release for trout. Good camping opportunities if you want to stretch
your trip out over a couple days.
South Fork Getting There: From Boise, take I-84 east, get off at
Blacks Creek Road Exit at mile 64. Follow the road to the north over the Danskin
Mountains. Continue to the take-out 19 miles from here. The put-in is 21 miles
up the dirt road from here.
