About: -
The Applegate River originates and flows through the Applegate Valley in the Rogue River National Forest.
Anadromous fish species such as silver and chinook salmon and steelhead, spawn
and are reared in the Applegate River before making their way to the ocean via
the Rogue River. Ten miles up the Applegate River from the Ranger Station is the Applegate Dam
and 988 acre reservoir, Applegate Lake.
January 1 through March 31:
The Applegate offers excellent fishing for steelhead averaging five to
eight pounds. Usually, the river is slower in January, perks up by February,
and is excellent in March. The river is also open for trout during this
period. The Applegate is then closed to fishing until the last Saturday in May.
Then open for trout through December 31st. Note: The river is closed the remainder of
the year and is closed year-round to salmon fishing.
