During the Spring of the year, stripers from the Arkansas River move in searching for trout. Many striper fisherman are aware of this favored food of the stripers and will often use live Rainbows as bait on the lower part of the stream. Stripers in excess of thirty pounds are caught by this method toward the lower end of the river. (more on the upper Illinois River)
