| Conditions
: Lower Illinois: August 23. Elevation normal, water 54 and clear. Largemouth bass slow on topwater lures all along the river. White bass slow on jigs at 1-2 ft. all along the river. Striped bass slow on live shad at 1-2 ft. below Gore Landing. Channel catfish slow on cut bait on bottom all along the river. Crappie slow on jigs at 1-2 ft. all along the river. Trout good on flies at the surface, on rooster tails at 1-2 ft. and on power bait on bottom above Gore Landing. Reported by: Oklahoma Wildlife Dept. |

| About: -
The lower Illinois River are tailwaters from Tenkiller Lake Dam.
The stream winds out of the edge of the Cookson Hills from the dam site for
approximately 10 miles to it's confluence with the Arkansas River. Nearly 8
miles of the stream is designated trout water by the Oklahoma Wildlife
Conservation Department. The stream is a year-around fishery with stockings of
rainbows every other week during the winter months and weekly stocking occurring
Labor day through Memorial Day. During the Spring of the year, stripers from the Arkansas River move in searching for trout. Many striper fisherman are aware of this favored food of the stripers and will often use live Rainbows as bait on the lower part of the stream. Stripers in excess of thirty pounds are caught by this method toward the lower end of the river. (more on the upper Illinois River) |
