: Madison River: Lower - The Lower has been fishing well but can be tough when that sun gets high. Double nymph rigs with crawfish, leeches, and worms followed by a sowbug, scud, midge, or baetis pattern will be most consistent. That being said, fish on the lower will rise to midges most days especially in low light conditions. Streamer fishing has been getting good. Keep your eye out for tagged fish and clip tags that you find. The FWP website allows you to submit tags and has more information on the studies being conducted. The upper has been fishing great and is ice-free in all sections. Double nymph rigs with a worm, zonker, or rubber legs followed by a small mayfly or midge nymph has been our favorite. Water is quite low so be mindful of spooky fish and throw those smaller indicators if you can. Streamer fishing has been picking up and those browns are on the hunt. Midges are out along with some skwalas and BWOs in the lower sections. Don't be afraid to start throwing those chubbies. Reported by: Montana Troutfitters |
