: Madison River: We've had some good days on the upper over the past week. I like the water from varney to town this time of year. Its where most of the deeper water is and there are lots of fish stacked up. On wednesday dave and I found fish were eating mainly small softies(size 16-18) and didn't really touch bright worms, eggs, stones or big nymphs for that matter. We did get some fish to attack streamers but nymphing was more effective. Some folks are having great fishing in the gardens above the lake so also consider that as an option. Take your boat or walk and wade it, it really won't matter right now, the flows are low enough that you can wade this river effectivley right now. There is no mystery to where the fish are holding either right now, find some nice deep choopy water and strip a streamer through it or down some bugs in it. Fly pattern suggestions:
