Conditions : NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing forecast (June through August): Lots of catchable-sized (10-inch) trout were stocked in the summer and fall of 2023, which should provide fair to good fishing through the spring and summer months. Splake trout, tiger muskie and Arctic grayling are stocked at a small size and won't be catchable until future years. We introduced some adult tiger muskies in summer 2022 to prey on the chub that survived the treatment. If you catch a tiger muskie, remember that the harvest limit is just one fish and it must be over 40 inches in length. However, we request that you release any tiger muskies you catch in 2024, so that they can keep the chubs in check while we work on establishing the fishery. Arctic grayling have not been stocked in Navajo Lake yet, due to hatchery production limits.

About: - This beautiful lake lies in a unique location within an interesting geologic formation. It is fed by snowmelt and ground water through numerous springs and lava tubes. Covering over 600 acres when full at an elevation of over 9,000 feet, it drains into both the Sevier River drainage (via Duck Creek) and the Virgin River Drainage (via Cascade Falls). The lake drains through numerous lava tubes in the lake basin.

Since poor overwinter survival of trout is often the norm, Navajo is stocked annually in early spring with catchable-size rainbow trout. Fingerling brook trout are stocked later in the summer Some brook trout always seem to overwinter as well as a few rainbows when conditions are right. Splake have also been stocked in the lake to provide another fish predator to help keep numbers of Utah chubs in check.

The lake is generally inaccessible during the winter except by snowmobile. Fishing can be good from shore from ice-out to when the lake freezes again in early December. Trolling spinners or popgear and a worm will work for boat anglers. During the late summer or fall there can be some good flyfishing in the west end. Boat launching can be difficult on low water years.

Site amenities: Three USFS campgrounds. One private lodge with cabins & boat rentals. Launch area for small boats.

Directions: Approximately 24 miles east of Cedar City via SR-14
