Conditions : South Platte River: Cheesman Canyon – South Platte River As of 6/15/2022, Angler’s Covey reports, “The low flows continue in the Cheesman/Deckers corridor. In fact, we have been told that these flows will persist into July. Yikes... Fish will now be concentrated in deeper runs. The feeding may vary day to day just because of the high angling pressure and low water. It’s a bug factory right now with midges, BWO's, and some Caddis and yellow sallies hatching. Fishing is technical as usual. Sight fishing is our preferred method. Small bugs and light tippet are the standard year round in the canyon, but will be especially important in low flows. Midges, caddis, and BWOs are all taking fish. Don't be afraid to include larger food offerings such as leeches, scuds, caddis larva, worms, and cranefly larva. Fish are keying in hard on midge and baetis imitations both subsurface and on top of the water. The caddis action is picking up. Midges seem to always be important here so be sure to fish them. Look for good BWO action on cloudy days, and the caddis have been getting more active on sunny days and in the evenings. The weather will be great this week with a big warm up into the weekend. There are decent rain chances every day, so thats really good news. Cheesman has been getting busier in recent weeks.

Dream Stream As of 6/15/2022, Angler’s Covey reports, “The flows have come down on the Dream too. Denver Water is attempting to fill up all of the reservoirs on the system. When will the flows increase? That's anyone's guess. Expect flows to remain around the current rate for at least a couple of weeks. You will have to cover ground to increase opportunities for the most productive days. Crowds are getting thicker. Be prepared to cover ground and try not to park on a spot all day. There are still some nice resident fish, but be prepared to work for them. Midges, baetis, and caddis have been the staple food sources on the Dream. Anglers can expect increasing Caddis activity with solid midge and BWO hatches on any given day. The weather will be great this week with afternoon rain chances almost every day. This area has taken a beating the last few years. Low water, hot water, and unethical angling are all contributing factors to the downward fishing trends here.

About: - (Cheesman Reservoir to Strontia Springs Reservoir only): The splendid natural beauty of this river is distracting even to the most seasoned angler. Bighorn sheep frequent the canyon walls and a variety of birds hover over the water. The two prime stretches of water area are as follows: Cheesman Reservoir to Strontia Springs Reservoir: This Gold Medal river is regarded as one of the best rainbow and brown trout fisheries in the nation. There are many fish over 14 inches, particularly upstream of Scraggy View Picnic Ground. Location: U.S. 85 to Colorado 67. Strontia Springs Reservoir to Chatfield Reservoir: Requires hiking or biking. There are fewer anglers in this stretch than in the Deckers area and the concentrations of fish are impressive. Best bets are rainbow and brown trout. Location: C-470 west to South Wadsworth. Follow Wadsworth to the Kassler Water Treatment Plant. Access to this area is by hiking or biking.

South Park: One of Colorado's best for quality-sized rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. Best areas are between Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile reservoirs, upstream from Spinney, the Middle Fork from the confluence with the South Fork upstream to Fairplay and the South Fork above Antero Reservoir to Highway 285. Best kept secret: Elevenmile Canyon. Location: West of Colorado Springs on Highway 24.
