: Erie County: Eastern Erie - Fishing - The mile streams are open, but angling pressure is light. Anglers are reporting small spring runs of steelhead into the Mile Streams. On March 1st all approved trout waters were closed with the exception of the Open to Year around Fishing Waters Program (Lake Pleasant). Your Pennsylvania Summary Guide has a complete list of these waters in your area or contact your local PFBC Region Office.
Boating - The North East Marina & Shade Beach Safe Harbor are scheduled to be dredged sometime in late March or Early April. Western Erie - Warmer temperatures have melted the ice off the western tributaries and Presque Isle Bay. Steelhead anglers have had sporadic success on the lower stretches of Walnut and Elk Creeks. Upper Elk has had limited angler pressure with success. Bay anglers have been very limited to fishing opportunities due to ice and weather conditions. Previously, hard ice anglers were doing well with the bluegills in Misery Bay. Additionally, the basin ponds on Presque Isle State Park and the Upper Gravel Pit in Fairview did receive their last late winter stocking of some very nice size brown trout. Anglers were doing well at both these locations. Both of these areas and Lake Pleasant are now governed by new regulations Approved Trout Waters Open to Year round Fishing. Consequently, from March 1st until the opening day of trout, anglers can still fish these areas but no trout are allowed to be taken or possessed on these waters during this period. Reported by: |
