  Detroit Lake

Detroit Lake is located in the Cascades of Oregon. The 400-foot-deep lake was created in 1953 when the Detroit Lake OregonU.S. Army Corp of Engineers completed the Detroit Dam project. The lake is over nine miles long with more than 32 miles of shore line. Detroit provides many easily accessible locations for avid fishermen. There are many fishing spots around Detroit Lake that can be very good from the shore.  Fishing from the dam provides the easiest access with some very good fishing action.   Hover campground/day use area located on the Santiam River Arm has a very long ADA accessible fishing dock in a good fishing location. Other good areas are any where a creek or river empties into the lake, like Tumble Creek, French Creek, and the Breitenbush River.

There are many high lakes located in the Detroit area, which are stocked during the year. The high lakes are also open year round, but winter conditions make these lakes inaccessible during the winter months.

Location: 50-miles east of Salem on Highway 22.

Camping: Detroit Lake State Park on highway 22.  The park is located on the warm and sunny north shores of Detroit Lake.  The Campground is open March 1st through November 3Oth.
