About: -
Bonito Lake is sixty acre mountain valley lake, located in Southeastern New Mexico just north of the Mescalero Apache Reservation. The lake has a good population of
wild brook trout as well as few bass and
carp. New Mexico Fish & Game consistently stocks Bonito with catchable-size and fingerling rainbow trout.
Anglers often work the steep shoreline to cover as much of the lake as possible.
Bonito is known to fish its best during the autumn months.
Camping: Campgrounds are located near the confluence of the north and
south fork of Bonito Creek, the inlet to the lake. At times
the campgrounds can become crowded during the summer months.
Directions: 14 miles north of Ruidoso of N.M. S.R. 37. Take S.R. 107
turnoff an the lake approximately five miles.
