About: -
Hobart Reservoir is located at an elevation of 7,650 feet in the Carson Range,
within the Toiyabe
National Forest.
The present reservoir covers approximately 10 surface acres, stores 110
acre-feet and has
a maximum depth of 15 feet.
Rainbow trout, brook trout, cutthroat trout and
hybrids (rainbow
x cutthroat) have been introduced into the lake. Brook trout are the only
self-sustaining
population. During the past several years, the population of brook trout in the
lake has exploded,
although attempts by NDOW to physically remove a portion of the brook trout
population has proved positive. If catching big fish is what you are after, this
probably isnt the place for you, but if you just want to spend the day in a
beautiful location catching lots of fish, give Hobart Reservoir a try.
Angler success is highest in the months of August
and September. Things to Consider: Due to its high elevation, much of the lake
may still be covered with ice in early May depending on weather conditions.
Hobart Reservoir is closed to vehicular access, so anglers will have to hike or
bike in.
