Conditions : BAY SPRINGS LAKE: The summer heat is creeping in and has slowed down some of the fishing pressure during the heat of the day. A lot of the angling activity is happening early and late in the day. Most anglers on the lake are targeting bass with a few anglers targeting catfish on the northern end of the lake. For bass, a few are throwing topwater early and late, but most are targeting offshore structure like humps, drop-offs and also off shore grass beds. It took 14.07lbs to win the Sunday evening fruitjar tournament this past weekend. Most fish are coming on Texas-rigged/Carolina-rigged plastics, shaky head worms, and jigs. If you find and active school, a flutter spoon might get a bite or two as well. The crappie bite is also deep as crappie have moved into their summer patterns. The few crappie anglers are hitting the deep ledges and brushpiles in 18 to 30 ft of water. Both minnows and jigs are catching fish, but one may out produce the other on any given day. The catfish reports are still coming in with most anglers are fishing near the cut at Crow’s Neck and in the canal above Crow’s Neck. Nightcrawlers and cutbait are good baits for Channel and Blue catfish while live bait is working better for Flatheads.
