Conditions : BAY SPRINGS LAKE: The bass bite is fair to good as most of the fish are still in that transition phase and starting to feed up for winter. It took 15 pounds to win the Sunday evening fruitjar tournament this past weekend. Largemouth are being caught along and in the vegetation (both pondweed and hydrilla) on frogs, flukes, and T-rigged plastics. Good numbers of spotted bass are being reported on secondary points in the big creeks and off of mainlake humps and points. Shaky-head and dropshot worms seem to be the best lure choice for spots. If you find some active fish, a willow leaf spinnerbait is a good choice. Crappie anglers are catching good numbers of fish but the size is about average with most fish being in the 10 - 11 inch range with the occasional 14 incher. Best areas have been the upper end of the lake near McDougal branch and Ashcraft. Best depths have ranged from 15 to 25 feet. Look for any brush or cover in that depth range to be holding fish. The catfish reports are fair to good. Anglers are jug fishing and using rod-n-reels in the canal between Bay Springs and Pickwick. Livers, nightcrawlers, and cut bait are all producing right now. If there is any current from TVA pulling water, it should help the bite.
