Conditions : BAY SPRINGS LAKE: Water temps are in the low to mid 60s and the water is still up from last week’s rain but is dropping. The bass fishing is still good if not great. Multiple reports of spawning bass are coming in along with a few anglers having success targeting those fish. Anglers are catching both quality and numbers of fish. It took 22 pounds to win a youth bass tournament there this past Saturday with a 6.39lb Meanmouth bass (a cross between a spotted and smallmouth bass) taking top honors in the big fish category. Bass anglers are still using a variety of techniques to catch bass. Right now, jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are working on those sunny days. Swimbaits, T-rigs and shakeyheads are working during overcast conditions. Just about any bank is holding bass as more and more fish move up to spawn. The crappie bite continues to be good as anglers are steadily catching solid numbers of fish. The crappie caught the last week or so have been coming out of water as shallow as 3 to 4 feet one day, and as deep as 15 ft another day. Jigs are still out producing better than minnows but that could change depending of the day. Popular areas are still Ashcraft, Five Fingers and McDougal, but any areas with standing timber are holding fish.
