Conditions : BAY SPRINGS LAKE: Water temps are approaching 60, and some pockets are already there. Water levels are slowly rising which should help the bite. The bass fishing is still good if not great. Anglers are catching both quality and numbers of fish. It took 24 pounds to win a local fruitjar tournament there this Sunday evening. One 9lber was caught Sunday as well. Bass anglers are still using a variety of techniques to catch bass. Right now, jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are working on those sunny days. Swimbaits, T-rigs and shakeyheads are working during overcast conditions. The A-rig will work in both scenarios. Just about any bank is holding bass as the males have moved up in preparation for the spawn and the females aren’t far behind. The crappie bite continues to be good as anglers are steadily catching solid numbers of fish, and one report came in about a 3lber being caught. The crappie caught the last week or so have been coming out of water as shallow as 3 to 4 feet one day, and as deep as 18 ft another day. Jigs are still out producing better than minnows. Popular areas are still Ashcraft, Five Fingers and McDougal, but any areas with standing timber are holding fish.
