Conditions : BAY SPRINGS LAKE: Water temps are in the 70s. The bass bite is still good for some and tougher for others. It took 21lbs to win the Thursday evening fruitjar this past week. The lake also gave up a monster 11 lb largemouth. The spawn is over and fish are in their post spawn patterns and heading toward deeper water. Since the fish are making that summertime transition, typical summertime lures are starting to show up on angler’s boat decks. Lures like football jigs, Carolina rigs and Texas rigged worms, deep diving crankbaits just to name a few. Look for the fish to start grouping up along off shore structure like the Josh Pond Levee, humps and deep points. The crappie bite is still fairly slow as we head into the warm season. The few crappie anglers hitting the water are targeting deep structure and cover in 15-20ft of water with both jigs and minnows. Some bass anglers are reporting catching some slab crappie around deeper brushtops on their bass lures. The bream bite is good around traditional bedding areas as it is that time of year again (bedding season). Try using both crickets and worms for best results. Look for the bite to pick up around the first of June as that’s the next scheduled full moon. Reports of catfish being caught in the divide cut are starting to come in. Most are running jugs with cut bait.
