About: -
Lake Claude Bennett is a 71 acre state-owned fishing lake located in Jasper
County. Repairs to the dam have been completed and the lake has refilled
allowing use of the boat ramp. This lake is well known for its excellent bass,
bream, and crappie fishing. Generally, we notice that a lake is known for one or
the other, but here it seems that each has equal fishing value to anglers.
Crappie anglers enjoyed a very high catch rate of 3.4 fish per hour during 2004.
That is excellent fishing since the average catch rate for agency-owned lakes is
only 1 crappie per hour! The catch rate for bream (1.8/hour) was also higher
than the average for agency-owned lakes which is 1.5 bream/hour.
Several
fish attractors have been established in the lake to create fish habitat and a
hot spot for anglers. These attractors have been marked with buoys for anglers
to easily find and are loaded down with Christmas trees. Other habitat sources
established here are several bream gravel spawning beds located near the
shoreline and fishing piers. These areas are great for locating bream during the
late spring and early summer months.
