Conditions : BECKER LAKE: Fishing is fair to good. The boat ramp is accessible. Becker is open to artificial lures and flies only, barbless hooks, and a 2-trout bag and possession limit. Try lures such as Super Dupers, spinners (Panther Martin and Rooster Tails), rainbow colored Z-rays, and KastMasters. Try flies such as peacock ladies, wooly worms and wooly buggers in brown, green, yellow, black or gray, brown colored nymphs, semi-seal leeches, prince nymphs, zug bugs, pheasant tails, hares ears, small scuds, and zebra midges.

Most of the lake is difficult to fish from the shore, but is easily accessed by boat. Recent fall netting surveys revealed rainbows ranging from 9 to 20 inches. There were a fair number of 15 to 20 inch rainbows.

About: - Becker Lake is a shallow reservoir. The lake averages 85 acres in size with a mean depth of 10 feet and a maximum depth of 22 feet. This shallow body of water is kept completely mixed during open water periods by high winds characteristic of this rain shadow region of the White Mountains. Surface water temperatures range from 32 degrees F in winter to extremes of 75 degrees F in late summer. A partial ice cover normally forms in early December and lasts through January. Periodic water quality sampling characterizes Becker as a hardwater, productive lake. The majority of the lake's basin is covered by either submergent or emergent aquatic vegetation.

Elev. 6,900 ft. Two miles northwest of Springerville, off U. S. 60. The lake is known for large rainbow trout, but no special regulations are in effect except for a season that runs from the first Friday in April to Nov. 30. Restrooms are on-site: other facilities are available in Springerville-Eager. Named for Gustav and Julius Becker, Becker Lake is the oldest man-made lake in Arizona. Several outlaws reportedly are buried at the bottom.
