: BEAR CANYON LAKE: Fishing is fair. It is a short but steep hike into the lake. Try worms, Power Bait, corn, and salmon eggs, lures such as spinners, (Mepps, Rooster Tail, and Panther Martin), Super Dupers, Z-rays, KastMasters, and Rapalas, and flies such as peacock ladies, wooly worms, wooly buggers, Yeager buggers, semi-seal leeches (black or brown) and small nymphs in black, brown or green colors. About: -
Bear Canyon Lake is a popular 60 acre fishing and hiking spot. Artificial lures
required for fishing. Catch trophy size Rainbow Trout & German Brown. Located 44
miles east of Payson along the Mongolian Rim.
Location: Travel east on SR 260 to Woods Canyon Lake turnoff. Turn left
onto FR 300, stay on FR 300 to junction FR 34. Turn left, continue on FR 300 for
approximately 2 miles to junction FR 84. Turn right, travel approximately 2.6
miles then turn left and travel through gravel pit to forest gate and
ramp.
Ramp/Access: Unimproved, rocky shoreline, no ramp. Gradual slope. No public
facilities. FR 300 all weather road. FR 84 primitive dirt road, maybe impassible
during bad weather.
