: MINERSVILLE RESERVOIR: Fishing forecast (March through May): The reservoir is usually free of ice by mid-March. Rainbow trout begin patrolling the shorelines looking for food and a place to spawn as soon as the ice comes off, and can provide great fishing throughout March and April. Many anglers fish with nymphs, but streamers, balanced leeches and midge drys can also produce well. Spin anglers can catch rainbows with marabou jigs, spinners, spoons and unscented plastics. Wipers also start to get active and typically seek out the warmest water in the shallows. For wipers, use lures and flies that imitate chubs and crayfish. As the spring progresses into May, trout feed actively on the surface (early and late), while moving into deeper water during the day. Smallmouth bass will also get more active in later spring, while wipers become more nocturnal. Reported by: Utah D.W.R |
