About: - The Conejos River has provided excellent fishing for wild brown and rainbow trout. Prolific hatches of stoneflies, caddisflies and mayflies occur from May through July. Best fishing follows snow runoff in late June and July. Fall is a great time to fish this tributary of the Rio Grande when fishing pressure is at a minimum and the trout are still rising to flies. Fishing should be good into October or November but the river may ice up a little earlier this year because of low flows.

Directions: From Alamosa, drive south on Highway 285 to Antonito. Turn west on Highway 17 south of town where you will pick up the river for 35 miles. Turn right on Forest Road 250, which follows the river to Platoro Reservoir.

Misc Info: - Regulations: The section from Menkhaven Ranch down to Aspen Glade CG is considered Wild Trout water where the bag and possession limit for trout is two fish, 16 inches or longer. Other special regulations sections include Saddle Creek Bridge downstream to the Hamilton property (where South Fork enters) and the Bear Creek subdivision. Check the regulations handbook for the specific restrictions.
