: Blue River - Silverthorne
As of 5/30/2022, Cutthroat Anglers reports, The Blue's flows are at 60 cfs which is a decent flow to fish this tailwater.
CPW freshly stocked the town sections with good sized rainbow trout. Streamers can be fun to try after they stock the river,
but small bugs and fine tippet will be the name of the game for the foreseeable future. We are seeing a few baetis
hatching, and midges as usual. A nymph rig with small natural imitations of Baetis and midges have been working well for us
recently. Sight fishing is the name of the game here so if you dont see fish- keep moving. A tandem dry fly rig, featuring
tiny midge or Baetis imitations as the second fly can also produce a few takes when fished to trout that seem to be looking
up. RIVER FLOW: The Blue is around 60 cfs coming out of the bottom of the reservoir.
WATER TEMPERATURE (DEGREES F): Right around the 40 degree mark.
WATER CLARITY: You can expect the water to be crystal clear most of the time! However, things such as an increase in
flows and increases in atmospheric temperatures may lead to stain in the water. Stain may also enter the system in the
afternoons due to road melt runoff.
CURRENT FOOD SOURCES: Mysis Shrimp | midges | small mayflies(BWO and PMD) | Yellow Sally nymphs | small caddis |
leeches, smaller fish, worms etc. Reported by: Sportsmans Warehouse |

About: -
The scenic Blue River is one of Colorado's Gold Medal fisheries.
Tailwaters of Dillon Reservoir the river provides rather consistent fishing. The
river is easy to wade and has good access.
The Blue River has abundance of Mysis shrimp from of the reservoir,
which may be a contributing factor to why the fishery has an unusual
number of large trout. In the winter months the river freezes
downstream at about the five-mile mark starting in mid to late
December. Between late March and November the entire river fishes
well.
The river host Rainbows, Browns, Cuttbows and Cutthroats, with some
rainbows and browns near the thirty inch mark.
Location - The Blue River runs from the Dillon Reservoir
Dam, just above the town of Silverthorne, to the confluence with the
Colorado River at Kremmling. Highway 9 runs along the length of the
river and it can be accessed by Interstate 70 west out of Denver to
the town of Dillon.
