Conditions
: WALTER E. LONG: SLOW. Water stained; 70 degrees. Bass are good in 10 feet of water or less with chatterbaits and swimbaits early and late, switching to finesse baits throughout the day. Focus on areas with small clumps of grass, bump into them and get a bite. Some areas the grass is growing fair and can be tough to fish. No signs of spawning fish yet but all the fish are very fat. There is 1-2 feet of visibility in wind blown coves with lots of grass, and when there is less wind the visibility is 3-4 feet. Report by David Report by David Townsend, Austin Fishing Guide. Bass are strong using worms in green colors with red or blue flakes, Alabama rig and spinnerbaits. Crankbaits are catching some good largemouth and hybrid stripers. Crappie are starting to pile up as well. A small crappie jig with a chartreuse head and light colors is working well for those. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs. Crappie are fair in 20 feet of water using chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Reported by: |

About: -
Walter Long is a high quality largemouth bass lake. Bass larger than 10 pounds are not rare. Hybrid striped bass are stocked annually, and fish larger than 5 pounds are prevalent. Channel and flathead catfish are present in low numbers. Crappie have been stocked several times, but did not fare well. Several sunfish species (bluegill, redear, and redbreast) offer quality fishing. Many of these sunfish are more than 8 inches in length.
