: BUCHANAN Water clear; 86 degrees; 8.65' low. Black bass are good on watermelon SkipNPop topwaters, weightless wacky rigged green pumpkin Whacky Sticks with chartreuse tails, and white/chartreuse spinnerbaits along lake and creek points and at Apple Head in 8 12 feet at first light. Striped bass are fair on topwaters and RatLTraps, jigging white Curb's bucktail jigs, and drifting live bait on the surface over 20 30 feet near the Lighthouse at first light. White bass are fair trolling Shad Raps and jigging Pirk Minnows and Tiny Traps over rock piles in 20 30 feet. Crappie are good on minnows and Curb's crappie jigs over brush piles in 12 feet. Channel catfish are good on live bait and cut bait. Yellow and blue catfish are very good on juglines and trotlines baited with goldfish and minnows. Reported by: |

Lake Buchanan is noted for its excellent striped
bass and white bass fishing. It also contains an under-rated largemouth bass and
Guadalupe bass population. White bass and striped bass runs occur in the
spring (February-May) with most of the fishing occurring from Beaver
Creek up into the Colorado River. Striped bass do not naturally
reproduce in the reservoir and are stocked by Texas Parks and Wildlife. A low
density white crappie population is present. The upper end of the reservoir
produces many large white crappie each year. Blue, channel and
flathead catfish occur throughout the reservoir. (more on

FISHING REGULATIONS All fish are currently regulated under statewide regulations, with the exception of white bass, which has a 12-inch minumum length limit. The 12 inch minimum for white bass is designed to protect females from harvest before they reach sexual maturity.
