Altus
Reservoir and adjacent Quartz Mountain State Park provide a major recreation
spot in southwest Oklahoma. Located in Southwest Oklahoma, near city of Lone
Wolf. The lake is approximately 6,500 acres of open water: the park area covers
4,300 land acres. Altus holds two state records for largest walleye (13 pounds)
and hybrid bass (22 pounds. Fishing is available from both sides of the entire
stretch with best access along the entire length of the North shore and near the
dam on the south side.
Trout season is November 1 through March 15. The
north fork of the Red River runs through the park, and each year in the fall,
hundreds of trout are released there for the annual "trout derby" in which
participants fish for tagged, prize-winning trout.
Location: In southwest Oklahoma, 17 miles north of Altus on State
Highway 44A.
