Conditions : Rock Creek: 991 CFS, 58-64°F - It seems like in a flash the cool weather disappeared and we are now experiencing 80 to 90 degree days regularly. Fortunately, we have a lot of water for the time of year, and the fish have been active.

The best patterns are currently green or gray drakes, purple hazes, and yellow sallies, but we also are seeing good numbers of PMDs and caddis. With heat like this, sometimes the fish aren't as keen at rising to the surface, so I recommend adding a crippled emerger trailer behind any of these dries.

In the middle of the day, nymphs are often the best way to fish. Purple is a great color for any nymph pattern this time of year, but dark stonefly nymphs and Pat's rubberlegs are also great options as well. If you want to fish a dry/dropper combination, try a large foam terrestrial with a smaller nymph pattern like a hare's ear or pheasant tail.
