Conditions : ABERDEEN LAKE: With all the recent rainfall, much of the lake is muddy with the only exception being north of the mouth of the old Tombigbee River. That being said, fishing is going to be a little tougher than normal unless you can find some clean water. Before the rain, bass were being caught but the quality bite is tough to come by. Best baits have been spinnerbaits, square-billed cranks and t-rigged plastics. Popular areas right now are laydowns on old river bendways and grass or brushtops in the sloughs. If you find the shad, the bass aren’t too far away. The catfish bite is still fair to good. Most reports are coming from the Becker Bottom area and also along the channel near Blue Bluff. Best baits have been liver and whole/cut. The crappie anglers are starting to have success hitting the old river runs. Pockets and sloughs on the west side of the lake near the Blue Bluff recreation area are also good. Best water depths are 6 to 8 feet. Crappie jigs or minnows were both working before the rain, but jigs should work better now in the dirty water.

About: - At 4100-acres, Aberdeen Lake is one of the premier May destinations for bass fishermen in the state of Mississippi. The lake has sloughs off the old river runs and they are shallow and filled with cover.  After the spawn, the bass at Aberdeen don't move out of the bedding areas, because they don't have to. Some of the best sloughs are Vine's Branch, Buzzard Wing and Moccasin Creek. The best old river run is Becker's.

Location: Monroe County, Hwy 45 East of Aberdeen.
