Conditions : ABERDEEN LAKE: Fishing on the lake is still slow due to the “muddy” conditions that are still lingering from last week. Cold, muddy water is hard to fish regardless of species. The crappie reports are fair. Crappie are holding around woody cover next to deep water. The best places have been the old river runs where the shad are grouped up. Try to look for some clean water as it may produce more bites than the muddy water. Try either shad colored jigs or dark/bright contrasting colored jigs for best results. The bass reports are slow. Like crappie, look for active shad and the bass aren’t far away. Best baits have been shallow square-billed crankbaits, white and chartreuse spinnerbaits, and t-rigged creature baits fished close to cover. The riprap at the upper end of the lake will probably be the easiest place on the lake to get bit as it doesn’t muddy up quite as bad as below the mouth of the old Tombigbee River. Anglers are throwing crankbaits, spinnerbaits, A-rigs and shakeyheads for their fish. The catfish bite is fair. Most anglers are hitting the old river runs and also the Tombigbee River itself. Shad and cutbait are best baits right now. The action will probably be slow, but some quality fish can be had.

About: - At 4100-acres, Aberdeen Lake is one of the premier May destinations for bass fishermen in the state of Mississippi. The lake has sloughs off the old river runs and they are shallow and filled with cover.  After the spawn, the bass at Aberdeen don't move out of the bedding areas, because they don't have to. Some of the best sloughs are Vine's Branch, Buzzard Wing and Moccasin Creek. The best old river run is Becker's.

Location: Monroe County, Hwy 45 East of Aberdeen.
