Conditions : ABERDEEN LAKE: The dog days of summer are here and not much has changed as the bass reports are still coming from the sloughs and cutoffs just off the main channel. An early morning bite is being reported on buzzbaits and frogs around any grass or wood. Shade continues to play a factor during the dog days of summer. A few bass are still being caught along the navigation channel as well. A few other reports from the riprap above Hwy. 278, with most anglers throwing crankbaits, spinnerbaits and shakeyheads. The catfish anglers are still reporting success with rod-n-reels and also jugs around the mouth of the old river and in the main channel with cutbait or whole shad. Cuts and creeks just off the channel are best areas for rod-n-reel action. The few crappie anglers braving the heat are also fishing the sloughs but the bite is slow. Standing timber and any vegetation in 5-9 ft of water has been giving up a few crappie with both jigs and minnows as either may out produce the other on any given day. Shade is an important factor for crappie as well.

About: - At 4100-acres, Aberdeen Lake is one of the premier May destinations for bass fishermen in the state of Mississippi. The lake has sloughs off the old river runs and they are shallow and filled with cover.  After the spawn, the bass at Aberdeen don't move out of the bedding areas, because they don't have to. Some of the best sloughs are Vine's Branch, Buzzard Wing and Moccasin Creek. The best old river run is Becker's.

Location: Monroe County, Hwy 45 East of Aberdeen.
