Conditions : ABERDEEN LAKE: ?The bass reports are fair to good. Numbers of bass are being caught but the quality bite is still a bit tough to come by. The shad have started migrating to the creeks and old river runs and the bass are following. Best baits have been willow leaf spinnerbaits, spooks, poppers, buzzbaitsm, and t-rigged plastics. Popular areas right now are laydowns on old river bendways and grass or brushtops in the sloughs. Look for schools of shad close to the surface, the bass won't be far away. Reaction lures like spinnerbaits and crankbaits are working along the rip rap above the mouth of the old river. The catfish bite is fair to good. Most reports are coming from the Becker Bottom area and also along the channel near the old Tombigbee River run out. Best baits have been liver and cutbait/whole shad. The crappie anglers are hitting the old river runs as the crappie are feeding on the shad like the bass. Pockets and sloughs on the west side of the lake are also good. Best water depths are 4 to 8 feet. Crappie jigs or minnows are both working.

About: - At 4100-acres, Aberdeen Lake is one of the premier May destinations for bass fishermen in the state of Mississippi. The lake has sloughs off the old river runs and they are shallow and filled with cover.  After the spawn, the bass at Aberdeen don't move out of the bedding areas, because they don't have to. Some of the best sloughs are Vine's Branch, Buzzard Wing and Moccasin Creek. The best old river run is Becker's.

Location: Monroe County, Hwy 45 East of Aberdeen.
