Conditions : ABERDEEN LAKE: What can be said other than it is still cold and muddy. This past weekend of cold temps and wet weather didn’t do fishermen any favors. However, if you can find some cleaner water, you will likely have better odds of catching some fish as nothing is tougher than trying to catch fish in cold, muddy water. These conditions have kept many anglers off the water in hopes of better fishing. The few that are braving the elements are mostly bass fishermen getting ready for the upcoming tournament season. A few bass bites are being reported in the very backs of the sloughs where clearer water can be found. Slow presentations like jig-n-pig combos and dark colored t-rigged plastics have been best baits. As water temps start to warm up, spinnerbaits will be a popular choice. The rip rap on the upper end of the lake will hold a little more heat during sunny days so try flat sided crankbaits and various soft plastic rigs there for a bite or two. The crappie reports are few and far between. The crappie should get hot about the 2nd or 3rd week of March.

About: - At 4100-acres, Aberdeen Lake is one of the premier May destinations for bass fishermen in the state of Mississippi. The lake has sloughs off the old river runs and they are shallow and filled with cover.  After the spawn, the bass at Aberdeen don't move out of the bedding areas, because they don't have to. Some of the best sloughs are Vine's Branch, Buzzard Wing and Moccasin Creek. The best old river run is Becker's.

Location: Monroe County, Hwy 45 East of Aberdeen.
