Conditions : ABERDEEN LAKE: The biggest change this week has to do with all the rainfall that fell last Friday. With all the water coming out of the old river, the majority of the lake is going to muddy so looking for some clean water might be the ticket to catching fish. Most reports continue coming in from the bass and catfish anglers. The bass anglers are reporting an early and late topwater bite in the sloughs and backwater areas with grass. Buzzbaits, frogs and popping lures are good here. The riprap bank above the mouth of the Tombigbee River should be have a decent bite as it stays clearer than the rest of the lake. It is holding a few fish right now, particularly spotted bass. Some current will help the bite. Crankbaits, shakeyheads and spinnerbaits are good choices for the riprap bite. The catfish anglers are reporting success with rod-n-reels and jugs. Cuts and creeks off the channel are best areas for rod-n-reel action. Flavored chicken and cutbait seem to be working as of late. The upper end of the channel near the old river has been popular with the jug fishermen. Some good catches on jugs between the lock and the Tombigbee River have come in as well. A reminder that handgrabbing season is now over. Placement of handgrabbing boxes in the Tenn-Tom Waterway is not permitted. No crappie reports this week.

About: - At 4100-acres, Aberdeen Lake is one of the premier May destinations for bass fishermen in the state of Mississippi. The lake has sloughs off the old river runs and they are shallow and filled with cover.  After the spawn, the bass at Aberdeen don't move out of the bedding areas, because they don't have to. Some of the best sloughs are Vine's Branch, Buzzard Wing and Moccasin Creek. The best old river run is Becker's.

Location: Monroe County, Hwy 45 East of Aberdeen.
