Conditions : Enid Lake: Bass - Most of the larger bass have abandoned shallow cover with the low water. Fish main lake points, ledges, or the edges of the old river channel with crankbaits or soft plastics.

Crappie - Best luck lately has been fishing jigs and/or minnows either in the main lake or the mouths of major creek coves for fish suspended 4 – 10 ft deep. Advanced electronics help, but folks are seeing fish onscreen that won't bite. The Magnolia Crappie Club tournament Saturday was won with 13.55 lb (7 fish); big fish was a tie at 2.19. There are a lot of "short fish"; use bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Cat - Fish worms or stinkbaits in the river and creeks if there is rainfall runoff. Otherwise, fish various natural baits over main lake flats.

White Bass - Cast jigs or small crankbaits over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. The mouth of the Wallace/Hubbard cove is a good spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

Fall drawdown is nearing winter pool. Fish should be following creek and river channels towards the main lake. Cooler water temperatures have fish holding a little shallower. No matter what the weekly fishing report says, always check the links in the "Water Level" section for the lake's current level and if it's rising or falling. A big rain can change conditions quickly. Adjust to current conditions like the fish do. Except for catfish, fishing is usually better on a slow fall than a fast rise. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

About: - MDWFP electrofishing last fall found good spawns of crappie, bass, and white bass this past spring. There were good white crappie spawns in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The big 2009 year class averaged just under 12 inches in November and is growing normally. The abundance of smaller fish bodes well for crappie fishing through 2015. Bass from 2007 and 2008 were abundant from 14 to 17 inches (1.5 to 2.5 lb), but there were also good numbers of bass to over 7 lbs. Bream were not extremely abundant, but many were one-third to one-half pound.

Contact the COE office (662)563-4571 for accessible ramps at current water levels.

Crappie spawning in Enid is normally from the end of March through the end of April, but it may vary a week or more depending on weather, moon phase, etc. Crappie spawned nearly a month later than normal the last couple of springs because a cold winter made main lake temperatures where crappie overwinter very cold. Main lake temperatures are warmer this winter and a more normal spawning time is expected unless we get an unusually cool spring. Not all crappie spawn at the same time; larger females usually spawn first and get the best spots. Black Crappie usually spawn earlier than White Crappie (males of both species get dark during the spawn; do not use color to tell the species apart).

Misc Info: - (2015) Starting July 22, 2015, the daily creel limit for crappie is 15 per person. Crappie must be over 12 inches. Anglers may use no more than 4 poles per person and no more than 2 hooks or lures per pole. There is a 40 crappie per boat limit for boats with 3 or more anglers. The 12 inch length limit does not apply to the reservoir spillway, but the spillway has a 15 crappie creel limit.

Starting July 22, 2015, limits on black bass (largemouth and spotted) go to statewide limits: no size limit, 10 fish per person daily.
