Conditions : Ridgway Reservoir - Fishing has been very good for rainbow trout. This influx of recent fish has attracted the larger brown trout, with several 10 to 15 lb. fish being caught this spring. As of April, the bag and size limits were removed from the smallmouth bass on Ridgway Reservoir. We encourage fishermen to help the park by taking smallmouth bass from the reservoir. This will protect the rainbow and (world class) brown trout fishery at Ridgway. Fishermen at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk section of the Uncompahgre River are using small midge patterns with good to very good success. One of the largest browns caught recently was landed using a leech pattern. Cloudy days often trigger a baetids hatch so consider using a #18 or #20 blue winged olive (BWO). Old school fishermen might try a #4 long shank leech pattern or even a gray. Fishermen are reminded that fish may be only be kept when taken from the reservoir or the fishing ponds. Any fish caught in the river must be returned immediately to the water. Fishing in the river is also restricted to flies and lures only, due to the popularity of the fishery please be courteous to other river users. All fishermen must have a valid Colorado fishing license in their possession while fishing and are responsible for knowing the rules and regulations pertinent to their fishing location.
