Conditions : TYGART LAKE – The lake is approximately 50 feet below the summer pool elevation and rising. The Pleasant Creek boat ramp is open. All other boat ramps on Tygart Lake are closed. Walking along the shoreline and fishing with crankbaits or twister tails during low-light periods can be an effective way to catch Walleye. Recent WVDNR surveys showed a very high abundance of Walleye throughout the lake. High discharges have allowed Walleye to migrate through the dam and anglers have reported very good success over the last week. The discharge is about 5,500 cubic feet per second. Walleye fishing is best during higher flows (1,500 to 5,000 cubic feet per second) and trout fishing is best at low flows (less than 1,000 cubic feet per second). Shoreline access to the tailwater is provided on both sides of the river and a ramp suitable for small fishing boats is located at the Grafton Park and Campground just below the dam. Call the Corps of Engineers telephone hotline at 304-265-5953 for daily lake and tailwater conditions.

About: - Located in the picturesque West Virginia countryside, Tygart Lake's blue waters and irregular shoreline contrast with the surrounding steep mountain terrain. The steep, wooded mountainsides and the clear inviting waters of the lake attract many visitors to Tygart for a day of relaxation and enjoyment. Located around the lake are several picnic areas, hiking trails, playgrounds, and the State Park's swim beach.

Fishing: Tygart Lake is considered by many to be one of the best bass waters in the area and fishing its deep waters can be a rewarding and exciting experience. In addition to bass, anglers will find abundant walleye, muskie, crappie, perch, and numerous pan fish. All species of fish found in Tygart Lake are sustained through natural reproduction rather than by stocking attesting to the exceptional water quality of the lake. Fishing for rainbow and golden trout, which were introduced into the tailwaters of Tygart Dam, is also popular with many anglers.

Facilities: Those seeking overnight accommodations at Tygart Lake have a choice between lodge or cabin facilities available at the State Park. There are also campgrounds available at the State Park and the Pleasant Creek Public Hunting and Fishing Area for those desiring a more rustic experience during their stay. The City of Grafton also operates a campground located in the vicinity of the dam's outflow area.
