: METOLIUS RIVER: Despite heavy fishing pressure over the holidays, the Metolius River continues to fish well for mountain whitefish, redband trout, and bull trout. Nymphing with stonefly, mayfly or caddisfly nymphs has been effective for trout and streamers are a good bet for bull trout. ? Fly-anglers should keep an eye out for fish rising in the afternoon and be prepared to try blue wing olive or midge patterns. Catch-and-release for trout including bull trout. Fishing is restricted to fly-fishing only upstream of Bridge 99 (Lower Bridge).?Reported by: Oregon D.F.W |

About: -
Nestled in a forested valley on the west flanks
of Mt. Jefferson, the Metolius is one of the largest spring-fed rivers in the
United States. Its clear, cold and constant waters support blue ribbon
flyfishing and whitewater boating. The lower river, adjacent to the Warm Springs
Indian Reservation, is managed as a primitive area with no motorized access.
Bull trout, redband trout, kokanee salmon, and
mountain whitefish are native to the Metolius River Basin. Chinook and sockeye
salmon were indigenous to the basin, but are no longer present. Other fish
available for recreational angling include naturalized populations of introduced
brook and brown trout, and hatchery releases of rainbow and cutthroat trout.
