DESCHUTES RIVER: Trout anglers are reporting good fishing from Macks Canyon upstream to Mecca Flat. While the peak of the salmon fly hatch has passed, anglers should pay attention to other emerging insects.
Spring Chinook fishing in the Sherars Falls area has been spotty, but good numbers of fish are still entering the river and should provide consistent catches. Anglers should expect the highest catches in the Sherars Falls area.
Spring Chinook anglers will have the opportunity to fish on the Lower Deschutes from April 15 to June 30. The daily limit will be 1 adult and 5 jack chinook. Once an angler retains the daily adult limit of one spring chinook, that angler can no longer fish for any species of fish from Sherars Falls downstream to the railroad trestle (the bait section).
Benham Falls upstream to Little Lava Lake:
Anglers report good fishing. Flies and lures only. Best opportunities are upstream of Crane Prairie Reservoir and between Crane Prairie and Wickiup reservoirs.
