Conditions : South Platte River: - As of 03/24/23. The Dream Stream is incredibly busy but fishing well. Above average flows and mild weather are both contributing to the productive fishing. As always, this time of year, making frequent adjustments to your depth/weight is important as trout adjust their depth and feeding location throughout the day. Youll find most trout holding along shelves or in pronounced pools, holes and runs. Transitions, slow riffles and tailouts are productive sections to target during a midge hatch. Midge activity has been consistent but will be hit or miss over the next few days as air temps drop into the lower 30s. As air temps rise next Tuesday, Griffiths Gnats, Parachute Adams and Cluster Midges will fool trout on the surface. Were starting to see more Spring midges on the water, which are larger than winter midges. So, if trout ignore your #22-24 pattern, give a #18 or #20 a try. When trout arent rising, nymphing with a Chocolate Foam Back Emerger, Top Secret, Mercury Black Beauty, Manhattan Midge or black RS2 in the trailer position will bring trout to the net. Red midge larva patterns and classic spring attractor patterns are hot lead offerings. Think Demon Midges, Blood Midges, eggs, Mini Leeches, San Juan Worms and red Copper Johns.Recommended FliesSub-surfaceBlood Midge (#18-22)Bling Midge (#18-22)Mercury Midge (#18-22)Black Beauty (#18-22)Zebra Midge (#18-22)Top Secret Midge (#18-22)Jujubee Midge (#18-22)JuJu Baetis (#18-20)RS2 (#18-22)Darth Baetis (#18-20)Barr's Emerger (#18-20)Chocolate Foam Back Emerger (#18-22)Pat's Rubber Legs (#12-14)pink/green scudMini LeechSan Juan Wormyarn eggMercury Pheasant Tail (#16-20)Guide's Choice Hare's Ear (#16-18)red Copper John (#16-18)Rainbow Warrior (#16-20)Perdigon (#16-18)Sub-surfaceGriffiths Gnat (#18-20)Parachute Adams (#18-22)Parachute BWO (#18-20)

Deckers - As of 03/24/23 As expected, flows moved on us just before last weekend and have sat at 135 cfs since then. If this trend continues, theres a good chance that flows move again between today and tomorrow, so keep an eye on flows. If flows increase, nymph rigs led with a larger attractor (scuds in particular will be hot) will be key. If flows drop, imitative midge, baetis and egg setups will receive the most attention. Thanks to mild air temps, midge hatches and surface feeding have been consistent. With slightly warmer air temps in the forecast, this story should continue. Be on the lookout for midges between 9 am and 6 pm. #18-22 Griffiths Gnats and #22-24 Parachute Adams will fool trout looking up. BWOs could make their grand entrance any day now, so stock up on Hi-Vis BWOs, Parachute BWOs, olive/grey RS2s, Barrs Emergers, Mercury Baetis and Stalcups Baetis. Aside from a shift in weather, the only thing that would impact hatch and surface activity is a significant flow increase (~80+ cfs bump). When trout arent rising, nymphing pronounced pools, runs, pockets, transitions and riffles is the way to go. Egg, worm and leech attractor patterns are hard to beat this time of year. Below your attractor, trail midge and/or baetis patterns. Blood Midges, Miracle Nymphs, Disco Midges, Mercury Black Beauties, Chocolate Foam Back Emergers, Flashback Pheasant Tails, JuJu Baetis, RS2s and Mercury Baetis are productive examples.Recommended FliesSub-surfaceBlood Midge (#18-22)Bling Midge (#18-22)Mercury Midge (#18-22)Black Beauty (#18-22)Zebra Midge (#18-22)Top Secret Midge (#18-22)Jujubee Midge (#18-22)JuJu Baetis (#18-20)RS2 (#18-22)Darth Baetis (#18-20)Barr's Emerger (#18-20)Chocolate Foam Back Emerger (#18-22)Pat's Rubber Legs (#12-14)pink/green scudMini LeechSan Juan Wormyarn eggMercury Pheasant Tail (#16-20)Guide's Choice Hare's Ear (#16-18)red Copper John (#16-18)Rainbow Warrior (#16-20)Perdigon (#16-18)SurfaceGriffiths Gnat (#18-20)Parachute Adams (#18-22)Parachute BWO (#18-20)

About: - (Cheesman Reservoir to Strontia Springs Reservoir only): The splendid natural beauty of this river is distracting even to the most seasoned angler. Bighorn sheep frequent the canyon walls and a variety of birds hover over the water. The two prime stretches of water area are as follows: Cheesman Reservoir to Strontia Springs Reservoir: This Gold Medal river is regarded as one of the best rainbow and brown trout fisheries in the nation. There are many fish over 14 inches, particularly upstream of Scraggy View Picnic Ground. Location: U.S. 85 to Colorado 67. Strontia Springs Reservoir to Chatfield Reservoir: Requires hiking or biking. There are fewer anglers in this stretch than in the Deckers area and the concentrations of fish are impressive. Best bets are rainbow and brown trout. Location: C-470 west to South Wadsworth. Follow Wadsworth to the Kassler Water Treatment Plant. Access to this area is by hiking or biking.

South Park: One of Colorado's best for quality-sized rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. Best areas are between Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile reservoirs, upstream from Spinney, the Middle Fork from the confluence with the South Fork upstream to Fairplay and the South Fork above Antero Reservoir to Highway 285. Best kept secret: Elevenmile Canyon. Location: West of Colorado Springs on Highway 24.
