Conditions : Blue River (below Green Mountain Reservoir) - The river is still high, fast and not wadable. However, the float fishing is decent. Make sure you have plenty of weight when nymphing, or strip heavy streamers. This section holds its share of trout, some of which are in the 18- to 22-inch range. Though some public access is available, much of the river courses through private property. Catch-and-release and flies-and-lures provisions are in effect for the river from the dam to the Colorado River.

Blue River (Dillon to Green Mtn. Res.) - Fill and spill is almost over! We are closing in on the ideal flow of 600 cfs for the Blue in town! If you are one for technical fishing, get ready! Mysis shrimp fishing still continues to be above average. Signs of the green drake hatch are prevalent. I ran a seine last evening by the damn and picked up several green drake nymphs. Might not be a bad idea to fish a drake nymph and a small Baetis pattern off the back right now.

About: - The scenic Blue River is one of Colorado's Gold Medal fisheries. Tailwaters of Dillon Reservoir the river provides rather consistent fishing. The river is easy to wade and has good access.

The Blue River has abundance of Mysis shrimp from of the reservoir, which may be a contributing factor to why the fishery has an unusual number of large trout. In the winter months the river freezes downstream at about the five-mile mark starting in mid to late December. Between late March and November the entire river fishes well.

The river host Rainbows, Browns, Cuttbows and Cutthroats, with some rainbows and browns near the thirty inch mark.

Location - The Blue River runs from the Dillon Reservoir Dam, just above the town of Silverthorne, to the confluence with the Colorado River at Kremmling. Highway 9 runs along the length of the river and it can be accessed by Interstate 70 west out of Denver to the town of Dillon.
